Many of you may know there is a new documentary being made about ME/CFS by Double D Productions in the U.K. A new trailer was recently posted on their main website which shows bits and pieces of people interviewed from the U.S. At the end of the clip, they show before-and-after photos of some patients afflicted with the disease. I'm one of those patients. You have to look fast though (minute 9:14/9:15), because if you blink, you'll miss it. :)
The documentary delves into the negative history and politics of ME/CFS, and how it was and still is largely ignored (i.e., erroneously dismissed as psychological) because it is difficult to diagnose or understand, and too expensive and time consuming to treat. There's also some discussion on the latest XMRV findings and its implications. You may recognize a lot of familiar faces: Dr. Judy Mikovits, Dr. Daniel Peterson, Dr. Sarah Myhill, and Andrea & Annette Whittemore, just to name a few.
I do hope that the documentary will include mention of the many who are bedridden with this illness, and who are ironically too sick to tell their story.

All I can say is WOW! I was not aware of this upcoming documentary. It brings up anger for a different reason. I applied to be seen at Dr. Peterson's clinic back in 2006. My application, my calls, my letters of inquiry since then, and a letter from a doctor on my behalf have all been ignored. Yet, I was told by the clinic that I would be seen in 6 mos. to a year.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this and well done for your appearance in the photo shoots.
Watching this trailer brought tears to my eyes, the sheer frustration with the medical profession that lets so many people suffer when so much more could be achieved if only they made even a small effort.
As you are aware so much happening with ME/CFS parrallels what is also going wrong in the Lyme Disease world so much controversy.
When will those doctors use the brains and training that got them their fat salaries and start listening to patients and finding something that really helps us.
Thanks Laurel for posting this information...glad you were able to be a part of this too...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the new trailer...I am so grateful this documentary is being made. It's about time!!
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel,
ReplyDeleteI only just found your blog and I must say that you have made it a joy to read about such a crappy subject hahaha!
I am really looking forward to seeing docuentary, the trailers look very interesting (I'm in Australia so maybe it will eventually be posted on youtube or something?).
Take care, I look forward to reading more about your life. Oh, and I have to say how lucky you are to have such cool stuff going on outside your window!!
Hi Laurel. I love this. Saw it earlier and they do such a good job of giving people a glimpse. You're right though, it's too bad that they can't focus a little more on the folks with severe cases.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this Laurel. And a starring role too!
ReplyDeleteHope the view out of your window is still keeping you going.
Lots of love
xx
Thanks for posting this, and for volunteering your pictures. I'd seen the first trailer but didn't know about this new American one. It's so exciting that it's getting made.
ReplyDeleteBtw the pictures of animals from your window are amazing. All I get are angry squirrels.

ReplyDeleteI agree with what Alison wrote about how wonderful the pictures are.
